The elegant Midwest Theater is the last of three "grand theaters' which were built
in the Scottsbluff/Gering are. The theater, which seats 700 people, is on the
National Register of Historic Places. There are no straight lines in the building's
interior design and some of the original carpeting and seating from 146 remains in
the balcony. Floral sculptures accenting the stage are still breathtaking examples
of the Art Modern Style. It is a primary gathering place for events ranging from
classic and second-run movies, to concerts, live theatre, speakers, church services,
televised Husker games, dance performances, class reunions, and wedding
receptions. The local library, Boy and Girl Scout troops, service organizations,
artists, teachers, and historians are some of the groups that regularly use the facility.
