Home to an extraordinary nature visitor’s center. 1100 acres of beautiful terrain.
Offer’s 3 ½ miles of nature trails perfect for hiking, biking and cross country skiing.

Monument Valley Pathway
This pathway travels 2.8 miles on a paved pathway along the river from the YMCA
building past Riverside Zoo accommodating hikers, bikers, and  runners offering a
spectacular view of the North Platte River and the Scottsbluff National Monument. See website for more information.
Gering Pathway
This pathway is a paved system extending from “U” Street in Gering to the Scotts
Bluff National Monument west of Gering. It provides the bicyclist/hiker a scenic
view of the natural area.

Lake Minatare State Recreation Area 308-783-2911
One of the most popular and scenic recreation areas in Nebraska’s Panhandle.
Encompassing 2,973 acres, including a 2,158 acre reservoir, Home of Nebraska’s
only lighthouse. Lake Minatare is 6 miles east and 8 miles north of Scottsbluff in
the historic North Platte River Valley.

Terry's Lake 308-632-7212
Terry’s Lake is located just south of the North Platte River, in Terrytown, Nebraska,
which lies between the communities of Scottsbluff and Gering. It is a 7-acre fishing
area open year-round. No boating. Fishing and a playground are available.
Bridgeport State Lakes
This 197 acre State Recreation Area is located adjacent to the city of Bridgeport
and sits along the banks of the North Platte River near the historic Oregon Trail.
The area offers fishing, canoeing, boating, picnicking, and  camping. Bird watching
and plant identification are favorite activities year around. A fee/permit is required
to enter the area daily and annual permits are for sale at Bateman's Trading Post
in Bridgeport.
Lake McConaughy 308-284-4066
Lake McConaughy is located approximately 120 miles southeast of Scottsbluff, is the
perfect place for windsurfing, boating, swimming, scuba diving, fishing, and a host
of other outdoor water sports. With 100 miles of Caribbeanlike white beaches, 
"Big Mac" as it is known to the locals, is 22 miles long and 4 miles wide. Nearly
everything about Lake McConaughy is big! Its 35,700 surface acres make it Nebraska's
largest reservoir with over 100 miles of shore line. The dam is among the largest of its
type in the world, and the fish grow to trophy proportions, accounting for several state

Mitchell, NE The Scotts Bluff County Fairgrounds are located on the west edge of Mitchell,
which is 9 miles west of the communities of Scottsbluff/Gering. The Scotts Bluff
County Fair is held annually in August Campgrounds are available, with approximately

south of Gering.
Cedar Canyon Wildlife Management Area
Pasture. 2200 acres. Deer, dove, & turkey. Located 4 miles west of Hwy 71
on Carter Canyon Rd, then 1 ½ south on county road 17, 1 mile W to parking
area.
Wildcat Hills SRA/WMA
Crop 40 acres; pasture 92 acres. Located 10 miles south of Gering.
Kiowa Wildlife Management Area
Crop 263.30 acres; pasture 22 acres; marsh 220 acres. Dove, pheasant, rabbit,
waterfowl. Located 2 ½ miles south of Morrill. Nontoxic shot zone.
Nine Mile Creek Wildlife Management Area
Pasture 179 acres; creek 1 acre. Deer, dove, pheasant, and rabbit. Located 3
